London Calling! The Standard hotel set to open in Summer ‘19.

Another year, another exciting new hotel opening. London is already home to some iconic hotels with stunning designs and The Standard will be no exception!

Making its international debut in the historic Camden Town Annex located across from St. Pancras Station, The standard is set to shake up the London hotel scene with a 266 room building which celebrates the historical architecture of the building whilst maintaining their distinctly modern vibe.

Interior designer Shawn Hausman, specifically chose a vibrant, colourful palette for the interior of the hotel, to contrast with “the greyness of London”. He further goes on to describe the guest rooms and communal spaces as having an “element of lightheartedness”.

What you can expect from The Standard

Guests can expect bold cobalt-blue carpets, with cushioned window seats and ottomans upholstered in plum-coloured fabric. Bright red wardrobes will also be featured as well as stripy black-and-pink tiles in adjoining bathrooms.

The Standard is well known as being a brand that likes to “be a bit naughty”, states Hausman. Thus the interior design has taken inspiration from the seedier history of King’s Cross and has tried to reflect this throughout the myriad of rooms.

Aside from the vibrancy of the hotels interior, The Standard will boast outdoor terraces with bathtubs overlooking the bustling St. Pancras Station, as well as recording studios and bars.

And what about the food?

The fun doesn’t stop at the interior! Three creatively distinct restaurants will make up the menu for guests at the hotel. The first all-day restaurant, Isla, will elicit a laid-back, elegant atmosphere and have a menu focused around British-sourced seafood and seasonal produce, alongside a menu of natural wines. Located in the hotel’s lobby, Isla will come complete with a garden terrace making it a perfect choice for summertime al fresco dining.

Double Standard is the concept for the second restaurant, combining pub fare with New York bar food. Craft beers, wines and cocktails will also be on offer creating a unique dining experience which continues late into the night. The interior of Double Standard is suggested to feature “heavy-set wooden doors, textured glass and plush red carpet”, a nod to the mischievous side of The Standard group.

Both Isla and Double Standard are being run by renowned chef Adam Rawson, who said: “I’ve really enjoyed the challenge of creating menus which reflect the distinct personalities of Double Standard and Isla. Double Standard is going to be a more raucous, convivial space, so I’ve come up with a selection of elevated snacks perfect for sharing (or soaking up a few pints). Isla’s menu will be more delicate and much lighter – perfect for enjoying in the summer sunshine.”

The third restaurant and bar concept will be run by acclaimed chef Peter Sanchez-Iglesias. This will be Sanchez-Iglesias’s first opening in the capital, and as a Michelin-starred,   chef, there can only be good things to come! This exciting rooftop restaurant will be directly accessible from street level and will provide guests with stunning views of the London cityscape.

Set to open in July 2019, The Standard is an exciting development for both The Standard group as well as London residents.
